The Story

'“HUMANO” is a bilingual (English/ Spanish), dark sci-fi thriller set in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The film explores themes of work, survival, sacrifice and technology.

To keep her job at a resort, housekeeper Rita Gomez undergoes “The Standard,” a radical neurological procedure designed to enhance human capabilities and counter AI’s takeover of the workforce. But as AI advances faster than expected, employers push for full transhuman integration—the final phase of The Standard. This ultimate step strips recipients of sight and hearing, merging them completely with AI. For Rita, it means losing the ability to see and hear her sons as they are—and slowly losing her humanity.

The Characters

  • Rita Gomez

    Rita (40s) is a mother of two who works at a luxury resort. Experienced and educated, Rita makes a decent living. However, her world is turned upside when the invasive medical procedure she has undergone to remain employed - threatens to remove her humanity.

  • Carlos Gomez

    Carlos (16) is Rita’s oldest son. On the verge of manhood, his teen angst fuels his anger and fears about his mother’s procedure.

  • Jaime Gomez

    Jaime (8) is Rita’s youngest. Jaime is very blunt, honest and does anything to get a laugh out of his mom.
